Borgata, North Expansion and Water Club
Atlantic City, NJ

The Borgata Casino Hotel & Spa, which opened in July 2003, was Atlantic City's first new hotel and casino in 13 years. Located in the Marina area on a stretch of land known as Renaissance Pointe, the 43-story casino and entertainment resort features 2,002 hotel rooms, 11 retail shops, 11 restaurants, a parking garage and 122,000 sf of gaming space with more than 3,600 slot machines and 145 gaming tables.

VDA provided full consulting services from design through construction administration for a total of 46 units including geared, gearless and hydraulic elevators, and escalators. The $1.1 billion project, owned by Boyd Gaming Corp. and MGM Mirage, was the largest hospitality development in North America in recent years.

Bower Lewis Thrower/Cope Linder again retained the services of VDA in 2004, a year after The Borgata was completed, for a 350,000 sq. ft. North Tower expansion project when the Borgata management realized they needed more gaming space, more luxurious guest rooms, and more spa amenities. When the expanded facility was completed in the second quarter 2006, the Borgata claimed one of the largest poker rooms in the area, more slots, additional restaurants and nightclubs, and back-of-house space.

During the planning stages of the first expansion, Boyd Gaming Corp/MGM Mirage, the owner, announced that a second Borgata expansion would be required to add 800 hotel rooms and suites and other amenities in a 43-story, $400 million project called The Water Club. Completion of the Water Club in June 2008 caps the 2-phase, $600 million expansion of the original Borgata, boosts the hotel's room count to 2,800, and effectively builds out the site. VDA provided vertical transportation consulting services for five (5) elevators and eight (8) escalators in the “Water Club."
