Brooklyn Post Office
U.S. Post Office and Courthouse

U.S. Post Office & Courthouse
Brooklyn, NY

This 575,000 sq. ft. project involved historic preservation and adaptive re-use of the General Post Office in Brooklyn as a Federal Post Office and Courthouse. The interior of the existing 11-story US General Post Office Building (two buildings: one constructed in 1892; one in 1933) was renovated, and the interior courtyard of the 1933 building received an 85,000 sq. ft. infill addition to provide a new mezzanine, new courtrooms for the U. S. Bankruptcy Courts, and 40,000 sq. ft for the U.S. Attorney's office. The U. S. Postal Service will occupy the newly renovated space.

VDA provided vertical transportation consulting services for 14 elevators, 4 handicap lifts and 3 document handling systems.
