Maryland Third-Party Inspection/Verification During the 2009 Maryland legislative session, a new law was passed mandating that, effective July 1, 2009, the Owner of an elevator unit operating in Maryland must contract with an authorized third-party inspector to perform an annual inspection/verification. (As of July 1, 2009, MD State Inspectors will no longer perform annual inspections unless the annual inspection is already in their backlog as of that date.) The new law also requires that the Owner re-register the elevator with the State, annually, coinciding with the annual inspection. The MD Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s Safety Inspection Unit will send notification to each Owner that the periodic annual re-registration and periodic annual inspection are due. It is the Owner’s responsibility to ensure the elevator unit is re-registered and the inspection is performed. Failure to do so is a violation of the law and subject to penalty. VDA® (Van Deusen & Associates) is an authorized third-party inspector in the State of Maryland and we are pleased to offer the required third-party inspection services as well as other services to enhance and/or extend the life of your elevator/s. If you would like more information about our services or a proposal, please contact our Third-Party Inspection Coordinator: Or, contact our MD office staff members: For full details on the recent law, you can access various resources on the Division of Labor & Industry website at: www.dllr.state.md.us/labor/elev.html |
